House Damp Proof Course: Protection Against Rising Moisture.

A damp-proof course (DPC) is essential for any structurally sound property, acting as a physical barrier to prevent moisture from entering and creeping up walls. This barrier helps prevent the spread of damp, mould and mildew, which can damage plaster, rot unprotected timbers and cause severe threats to the overall structural integrity.

Polyethylene DPCs are now the industry standard due to their flexibility and ease of installation. These rolls come in 20m and 30m lengths and widths from 100mm to 600mm. They are easily cut to size and inserted into the cavity between bricks during initial construction or renovation. To seal the joints between brickwork and DPC, use products like IKO Hyload DPC Mastic or Expansion Joint Foam to ensure your application is robust and watertight.

Ensure the Entire Property Remains Damp-free.

To create a comprehensive damp-proofing system, consider installing additional protection such as a Damp-Proof Membrane (DPM). These products are wide polythene sheets typically used in flooring under concrete slabs and blocks to prevent moisture from reaching the masonry.
